Program Notes:

1000 Swimmers in the Canals (2013): On Saturday, May 7, 2011, my brother-in-law Richard Brooks died after a 17 year battle with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.   On Sunday, Sept 9, 2012, a thousand swimmers joined Netherlands’ Princess Maxima in a charity swim for ALS in the Amsterdam canals.  1000 Swimmers in the Canals seeks to capture the energy of 1000 swimmers moving together freely in the cold water, taking advantage  of a once in a lifetime opportunity, and the struggle for diminishing movement each ALS patient endures.

1000 Swimmers in the Canals was written for the Ensemble FORO of Portugal in 2012-13.

Premiere: Unpremiered
